Having Fun

(Photo: Ginger Johnson)

Fun. Everyone should have plenty of it.

It’s good for your health and well-being as well as peace of mind. Plus those around you benefit when you’re happy and energized.

Having fun usually means you’re in a good mood, want to share that mood and are soaking up the goodness of your surroundings. Whether it’s curled up on a couch with a good book, out on a bike ride or hike, enjoying time with family or friends, or relaxing at a favorite community spot.

We believe in having fun – lots of it, every day, even while we’re working hard in our brewery, restaurant and kitchen. Indeed, we relish the chance to spend time with coworkers and customers and deliver a little something exceptional every day!

To go with fun, we believe in great food, exceptional craft beer and fabulous people – and that means YOU. We hope to see you at Standing Stone Brewing Co having a fun time of your own soon.

American Craft Beer Week: Guest Beers

Tonight at 6 pm we’ll tap a Caldera Brewing Company brew in celebration of American Craft Beer Week.

Why a beer that’s not our own?

Because the brewing community – like all kinds of communities – survives and thrives better when we’re all in the boat. Together. Grabbing an oar, so to speak, helps all of us go forward.

Caldera is out neighbor in Ashland, recently garnered 2 – 2010 World Beer Cup awards as well.

Come join us – we still have more events to come – ACBW lasts through Sunday, May 23rd.

Brewery tours every day at 11:30 & 5:30, Root beer demo Saturday at 2 pm, Southern Oregon Brewing guest tap, Saturday at 6 pm, Bike ride to and from Alpha Beta Hops Sunday at 2 pm.

American Craft Beer Week: Proclamation

Ashland, OR got fully behind America Craft Beer Week, with a Proclamation in support of the occasion signed by our Mayor and approved by our city council!

Here’s the Proclamation, which Mayor John Stromberg  read Monday at our American Craft Beer Week launch party Monday.

Proclamation for American Craft Beer Week

May 17 – 23, 2010

American Craft Beer Week is annually celebrated in breweries, restaurants, and beer stores by craft brewers and home brewers nationwide;

Our local breweries continue to grow their businesses in the city of Ashland and the greater State of Jefferson;

American craft brewers employ nearly 100,000 full- and part-time workers and annually generate more than $3,000,000 in wages and benefits;

American craft brewers support American agriculture by purchasing barley, malt, and hops grown, processed, and distributed in the United States;

And our local breweries are actively involved in the Ashland community through philanthropy and sponsorship of community events;

Now, therefore, the City Council and Mayor, on behalf of the citizens of Ashland, herby proclaim May 17-23, 2010 as  “American Craft Beer Week.”

And encourage all citizens to:

  1. Support the goals and ideals of American Craft Beer Week, as founded  by the Brewers Association;
  2. Recognize the significant contributions of our local breweries to the city of Ashland’s economy;
  3. And invite beer-lovers of Ashland, Oregon to celebrate American Craft Beer Week through events at our local breweries and to appreciate the accomplishments of all craft brewers.

Bike to Work Week

Get that bike ready (if you’re not already riding it regularly)!!

May 17th kicks off Bike To Work Week.

Here’s a helpful piece on how to be ready – ride safely by keeping your bicycle in good condition.

At Standing Stone, we have an employee bike program – in short – employees can earn a free quality road bike to make their commutes green and healthy. The state is offering help.

That bike yellow rack outside? It’s part of the whole big picture – making a safe place to put your bike when you’re working is important too.

So get on your bikes and join us!

p.s. scroll down to May 23rd here…ride along.

National Tavern Month – Celebrate with Us

Standing Stone invites you to get out and help Celebrate National Tavern Month!

That’s right – get out and show your support for what our brewing community does for the local economies, as well as the national economy.

It’s about getting out, showing up – enjoying the social company of friends and savoring quality beers. Food is a great match for beer and readily available at many brew pubs and taprooms, taverns and other establishments that sell beer.

Beer drinkers, far and away, are responsible, forward thinking (heat recovery systems anyone?), engaged in their community, give much back to their cities and towns, and in general want to make the world a better place.

Beer is an affordable luxury and one way to assist – when done responsibly – in much needed economic stimulus.

Come join us, won’t you?

Save The Dates: American Craft Beer Week is Coming!

Dear beer lovers everywhere,

American Craft Beer Week is coming up May 17th – 23rd.

House 753 resolution in 2006 got the national ball rolling, and here’s a 2010 bill supported by 111th Congress.

Standing Stone Brewing Company invites you to visit the Events Page of our website, as well as the Brewers Association website here to check in on what wonders await afforded by American Craft Breweries.

We’ll be showcasing beer & food specials each of the seven days of American Craft Beer Week. For those over 21 and for those under 21, we’ll feature events, special guests and more – stay tuned for the details as we nail them down.

Why?

Our brewer, Larry Chase, says, “Because celebrating your local breweries is a perfect example of what it mean to be American.”

Mark it on your calendars – May 17th-23rd.  Savor in the hearty bounty of America’s favorite pastime -beer!

Up, Up, Up: Mt. Ashland Hillclimb Coming Up

Are you planning ahead for the annual Mt Ashland Hillclimb Run??

Check out the details here and come join us – good (if not arduous) exercise, beautiful views, motivated people.

Standing Stone has long sponsored the race by providing quality beer at the finish. Mmmmmmm! Good motivation indeed. Did you know that beer has Vitamin B?

Why do we help sponsor it? It engages and encourages a healthy lifestyle – exercise, it’s a social event – who doesn’t want more friends, and it’s an incredible view from the top.

So whether you run, walk, or drive to Mt Ashland August 7th, consider putting it on your calendar.

Now…go take a walk…or run…or…

Live Music and Art Walk Makes for a Great Friday Night

Every First Friday in Ashland the town bustles with the monthly Art Walk. It’s a terrific opportunity to get out and about in the community, visiting different galleries that are opening their doors specifically to give you several good reasons to walk about. Many Ashland cafes and restaurants also feature shows from local artists, so be sure to check in the windows of all the storefronts downtown for the full experience.

We love the opportunities for exercise, community, running into people you know, meeting new faces, art appreciation and supporting local business.

Standing Stone Brewing Co offers live music with Duo Flamenco every Friday night after the Art Walk, starting at 8:30pm. Come in for a pint and a snack, and, who knows, maybe a little dancing.

So get out and about every First Friday!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Celebrate With Greener Cuisine

St. Patrick’s Day encourages us to break out our green. We think it’s a fine idea to keep this spirit up everyday.

Green – while certainly a color of many foods – is also how many folks talk about for sustainable, responsible ways of living and doing business.

Awareness and action are both important to help make this happen, and we do our part to work on these everyday. We think about this a lot in relation to food, since we serve lots of tasty fare from our kitchen, and savor foods of our own creation daily.

There’s certainly a lot of information to sift through to identify more sustainable foods…and there’s no single definition. We’ve made it a priority to form relationships with food producers and  vendors, and ask about their practices. We also check out their websites, and stay updated on important issues through sources like Grist.

When we are aware, we make smarter more informed choices. Our choices affect not only us – they affect everyone. When we choose a burger that’s made with grass-fed beef, we’re enjoying something that much tastier and healthier, and supporting a hardworking farmer that cares for the environment and their cattle. Here at Standing Stone look for ingredients that are as local and regional as possible, produced organically, made without synthetic agricultural chemicals or hormones, humanely raised and provided by companies that uphold good social, environmental and labor practices.

So this St. Patty’s Day, and every day, celebrate with ‘green’ food. We’ve got lots on our menu to help you there. These choices help bolster our economy and personal wellness while helping the planet. Yum!
