Latest Specialty Beer: The 2012 Barley Wine
We’re cheering the return of a holiday favorite – Standing Stone Barley Wine. Every year fans of this rich, bold specialty beer await its festive arrival, and we’re delighted to announce we’ll be tapping the Barley Wine this Friday, November 30th.
Barley Wine gets its name from the pronounced malty flavor this brew exhibits and its generous alcohol content (8-12%), similar to that of wines. The strong ale style originated in England, though many American craft breweries have taken to brewing this tasty cold-weather treat, too. At Standing Stone, we experiment every year with special versions of the brew, often times using barrel aging as a way to concentrate the woody, rich flavors and create a full body and mouthfeel.
This year, to make your tasting experience even better, we’re unveiling our new Barley Wine glassware. These 13 oz. logo’d glasses hold just the right amount of the hearty brew, and their curved sides hold in aroma and flavor til the very last sip.

Food Pairings
Dishes with bold and intense flavors will stand up well to the strength of the barley wine. Robust cheeses, like Blue Cheese or Gorgonzola, and walnuts are classic Barley Wine pairings. Rich and sweet desserts make for pleasing beer and food twosomes as well. Here are our recommendations from our menu:
House Greens with Bleu Cheese Crumbles and Candied Walnuts
Black & Blue Burger
Spicy BBQ Chicken Pizza
Standing Stone Black Angus Beef Primal Cut – Rotating Daily Specials
Walnut Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce
Stir Crazy Chocolate Cake
We invite you to come in and toast this limited edition brew with your beer-loving friends and family (or other Barley Wine fans you meet at the brewpub!). A liter of Barley Wine to-go also makes a great gift for parties and holiday gatherings. Pair with a rich, bold appetizer for a great show-stopping indulgence. And, as always, we encourage you to enjoy responsibly. Cheers!
