Outdoor Dining and Summer Jazz

One of our favorite things about warm weather season is the chance to enjoy our spacious patio. There’s a nice article by the Ashland Daily Tidings highlighting venues with al fresco dining, including Standing Stone Brewing.

Traveling here soon? Already living here? On holiday? Visiting friends, family or simply on a road trip? We’re always glad to welcome you ‘home’ to relax with a a good meal and beverage, inside or outside.

Our back patio has both sun and shade so you can find the spot that suits you best. You can see views of the mountains, look out over downtown Ashland or check out the hops plants we grow for a little shade.

We also enhance our live music offerings with a Summer Jazz series that runs through Labor Day. You can enjoy the diversity of the Valley’s best jazz acts on Sunday afternoons, as well as our regular Saturday evening solo guitar act, Tim Church, in the relaxing atmosphere of our patio.

Come visit soon and enjoy!

Pairing Craft Beer & Food

Not only is it wise to enjoy food when you drink alcohol, it’s more social enjoyable, and healthful…and it’s hip and trendy!

Trendy?

Yes. The rise of craft beer has attracted folks who also love fine food, and we all know they’re better together. Indeed, America recently celebrated this in fine fashion at  Savor in Washington DC, a food and craft beer extravaganza.

Handcrafted microbrews go with so many different things. Some folks pair items according to similarity, like zesty foods and a beer with spicy notes. Others like contrasts, like a solid stout and a delicate fish or salad.

There are lots of ways to join the fun. You can educate yourself, go to events, ask others for ideas and tap into resources available to learn more.

At Standing Stone Brewing Co we’ve got both fresh beer and fresh food made on site just for you. Come in and play with some pairing ideas and ask us for suggestions. We like savoring an Oatmeal Stout with Stir Crazy Chocolate Cake, or the Double IPA with a Valley View Beef Cheeseburger.

Come join us and share your favorite pairing discoveries. Enjoy the trend.

Welcome Brewmaster, Larry Chase

Larry on grain delivery day

Larry Chase joined Standing Stone Brewing Company as our new Brewmaster earlier this year. He brings a wealth of brewing experience, from small brewpubs to commercial craft breweries.

Larry’s also traveled extensively across Europe and the US, visiting diverse breweries and pubs and, of course, sampling their creations to imbibe the best secrets.

We’re excited to add him to our team, as he’s known for his creativity and wide knowledge of beer styles. He’s already brewed up some great ideas for specialty beers to keep you satiated through the year.

The Brewers Association recently interviewed Larry. Check out the article to get to know more about the force behind our brew tanks.

After you’ve read it, come in and enjoy one of the tasty beers he’s put on tap. Larry would also be happy to give you a tour of the brewing area and answer any questions you have.

He especially enjoys chatting it up with other home brewers and trading tips so be sure to introduce yourself to Larry if you make your own beer.

Cheers!

p.s. It’s tax day – you deserve a good beer.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Celebrate With Greener Cuisine

St. Patrick’s Day encourages us to break out our green. We think it’s a fine idea to keep this spirit up everyday.

Green – while certainly a color of many foods – is also how many folks talk about for sustainable, responsible ways of living and doing business.

Awareness and action are both important to help make this happen, and we do our part to work on these everyday. We think about this a lot in relation to food, since we serve lots of tasty fare from our kitchen, and savor foods of our own creation daily.

There’s certainly a lot of information to sift through to identify more sustainable foods…and there’s no single definition. We’ve made it a priority to form relationships with food producers and  vendors, and ask about their practices. We also check out their websites, and stay updated on important issues through sources like Grist.

When we are aware, we make smarter more informed choices. Our choices affect not only us – they affect everyone. When we choose a burger that’s made with grass-fed beef, we’re enjoying something that much tastier and healthier, and supporting a hardworking farmer that cares for the environment and their cattle. Here at Standing Stone look for ingredients that are as local and regional as possible, produced organically, made without synthetic agricultural chemicals or hormones, humanely raised and provided by companies that uphold good social, environmental and labor practices.

So this St. Patty’s Day, and every day, celebrate with ‘green’ food. We’ve got lots on our menu to help you there. These choices help bolster our economy and personal wellness while helping the planet. Yum!
