Zwickelmania 2017- Saturday, Feb 25th 11am-4pm

Calling all craft beer fanatics! Zwickelmania 2017 is upon us!

This Saturday, come on down to the brewpub and join in on the action. The day dedicated to all things craft beer is being celebrated by breweries all over the state of Oregon. A tradition going on it’s 9th year, brewers open up their doors to give tours, tastings, lectures and more. If there ever was a day to bribe a friend to spend their day driving you from brewery to brewery, this would be it! (now think real hard, who owes you that huge favor?) Check out the list of breweries in Southern Oregon representing their craft brewing pride. Pretty impressive!

Our Brewer extraordinaire, Larry Chase will be offering free brewery tours every half hour. If you have ever wondered what goes in to brewing a batch of beer, what a brewing system looks like or how on earth someone gets lucky enough to brew beer for a living, this is your chance to get the down low. And for those of you who can’t resist a free sample or two, our brewing assistant, Cat will be giving away samples of our beer paired with small bites of delicious goodness. It will be a great opportunity to get a sneak peak behind the scenes and hang out with our Brewing masterminds and other craft beer lovin’ folks just like yourself.

Swing on by, grab a pint and celebrate some Zwickelmania madness with us!

Tour & Taste at Zwickelmania, 2/15

zwickelmaniaPresident’s Day Weekend is coming up, and we’re pretty sure the Founding Fathers would have supported an afternoon dedicated to touring breweries, sampling and learning about craft beer. Saturday, February 15th from 11am-4pm Standing Stone will join breweries all over Oregon in celebrating Zwickelmania, presented by the Oregon Brewers Guild.

Zwickelmania is the annual one-day event in Oregon when breweries open their doors to beer-lovers for brewer events, beer samples, tours, classes and more. Last year, 93 breweries from all over the state participated with celebratory events. At Standing Stone, we’ll host a “hang with the brewer” day. Come visit with Brewmaster Larry Chase, walk around the brewing deck, peek inside a brewing tank and taste free samples of some of our house made beers on tap.

If you’re in the Rogue Valley, make a day of it and visit Bricktowne Brewery in Medford and Caldera Brewery in Ashland, too. Both local breweries are offering tours and discounts on craft brews. Check out the Zwickelmania event page and click on any of the seven regions of Oregon to see which breweries are participating in your area.

brewery testFun fact: Zwickelmania gets its name from the “zwickel,” a sample valve on beer conditioning tanks. This sample port allows brewers to take quality control testers during the fermentation process. You have this valve to thank for your favorite craft brews!

For more information head to Oregon Craft Beer’s Zwickelmania event page, Facebook page and Twitter. If you take photos or just wish to share the celebration with others, use the hashtag #zwickel14. Bring your beer buds and celebrate a day of quality craft beer in Oregon!

Tapping Into Tours and Tastings for Zwickelmania 2013

zwiclemaniaCraft-beer enthusiasts, mark your calendars! Oregon’s annual Zwickelmania celebration is slated for Saturday, February 16th and independent breweries all around the state are honoring this holiday by offering tours, tastings, seminars and more. At Standing Stone, we’ll host brewery tours twice during the afternoon, followed by a sampling of three SSBC beers. Our brewer, Larry Chase, will also present a free class titled “How Do You Get That Flavor in Beer? An Ingredient & Beer Tasting.” All are welcome to join and everything is free!

Zwickelmania is presented by the Oregon Brewers Guild, our state’s resourceobg for promoting the well-being of the brewing industry. We’ve been members for years and value its collection of information and support for all things Oregon beer!

A bit of background: The name Zwickelmania comes from a valve on brewing equipment called a zwickel. This sample port is mounted on the outside of the brewing tanks and allows beer-makers to sample their brews for taste and quality control.

For a list of all the 70+ participating Oregon breweries, visit the Oregon Brewers Guild’s Zwickelmania website. If you’d like to make a whole day of celebrating in Southern Oregon, check out the local breweries offering extras for the day:

  • Standing Stone Brewing Co in Ashland, OR – Brewery tours and Picture 7tastings at 12pm and 1pm. Free class on Beer Ingredients and Flavor at 3pm.
  • Caldera Brewing in Ashland, OR – Brewery tours, beer tastings, cases for sale and Parking Lot Sale.
  • Southern Oregon Brewing in Medford, OR – Brewery tour at 4pm and Happy Hour at 7pm.
  • Apocalypse Brewing in Medford, OR – Brewery tours and brewing demonstrations.
  • BricktownE Brewing in Medford, OR – $2 chicken tacos and debut of Runaway Train, an Indian Red Ale.

Zwickelmania promotes the relationship between beer drinkers and the craft brewers who make their beloved beverages, and inspires lots of beer sampling, of course. We encourage you to do just that (responsibly, those of you 21 and over) and join us for learning, touring and tasting in celebration of the 5th Annual Zwickelmania.

Join us for Zwickelmania 2/18: Free Tours, Tastings and a Class

Join us this weekend for Zwickelmania, a statewide event uniting 67 craft beer establishments to offer tours, tastings and more.

This annual fiesta takes its name from the zwickel sample valve on beer conditioning tanks, which allows brewers to take quality control samples during fermentation. Now in its fourth year, Zwickelmania takes place on Presidents’ Day Weekend – an apt occasion to celebrate independent American brewpubs and American-made craft beer.

Along with Caldera Brewing and Southern Oregon Brewing Company, we’ve brewed up activities to represent Southern Oregon’s craft beer excellence with pride. We’ll offer tours and a class with Brewmaster, Larry Chase, all free of charge and open to those age 21 and over.

Event details:

  • February 18
  • Tours and tasting: 12-1 pm and 2-3 pm
  • Class: 3:30-4:30 pm, “Beer Ingredients and their Flavor Contribution”

If you’re in Southern Oregon, make a day of it and visit our friends at Caldera and Southern Oregon Brewing, too. As always, please celebrate responsibly and have a designated driver if needed.

We’re excited to be a part of this fantastic event, and the growing craft beer industry in Oregon and the US. This movement is indeed brewing quickly. According to the Oregon Brewers Guild, 19 new Oregon breweries and brewpubs opened in 2011, and participation in Zwickelmania has grown from 15 to 67 establishments since the first event in 2009.
